Abstract

The research aims to identify the effect of aquatic games on developing some physical abilities for children with mental disabilities. The researchers used the experimental approach using pre and post measurements on two groups (experimental and control). The total research sample consisted of (30) children (males - females) aged (10-14) years from the affiliates of the Social Rehabilitation Association in the city of 15 May. The sample was randomly divided into (8) children to conduct the exploratory experiment, (22) children to conduct the basic experiment, who were divided into two equal groups. (11) children as an experimental group, (11) children as a control group. The experimental group was subjected to aquatic games for 12 weeks at a rate of (3) sessions per week, while the control group did not undergo any program and followed the recreational program of the associationPhysical abilities were measured before and after the program for both groups. The results were statistically analyzed using the t-test. The physical abilities of the children were measured before and after the training period using physical ability tests (20m run, 20m zigzag run (seconds), standing broad jump, throwing and catching a ball (30sec), tennis ball throw for distance, grip strength, static balance test). The results showed statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental group in the pre and post-measurements in the physical ability variables in favor of the post-measurement. While no statistically significant differences appeared in the control group
