Study of Nutritional Status of athletics players with Down syndrome and it’s relation to Nutritional awareness

Abstract

The study aims to evaluate the nutritional status of athletics players with Down Syndrome in comparison with RDA and it’s relation to Nutritional awareness, The researcher used the descriptive approach on a sample of (23) athletics players with Down syndrome Female gendered (18 members of the main sample + 5 pilot study who have the same specifications as the main research sample but are outside the main research sample), players registered in the records of the Egyptian Sports Federation for Intellectual Disabilities, and the results of the research showed that the caloric intake and basic nutrient’s elements for the sample are consistent with RDA, However, the intake of Electrolytes and Vitamins (Iron, Zinc, Vitamin A, Riboflavin, and Vitamin C) for the sample are more than the RDA, which reflects poor Nutritional awareness, As there is no statistically significant differences between the Nutritional awareness and the Nutritional status for the sample, the researcher recommends to build standard recommended dietary intake specified for this community according to their needs of genetic defect that causes disturbances in the shape and composition of the body and general appearance compared to their Siblings.
