Abstract

The current era is characterized by tremendous progress in the fields of educational technology and communications technology, which imposed a number of challenges on the educational system at its various stages, which required many changes through the use of technological innovations and investing their capabilities in serving the educational process. Educational circles, locally and globally, are witnessing an increasing interest in educational technology, as well as information and communications technology, with the aim of developing the educational reality and raising the level of educational outcomes, which carried within it the inevitability of changing what is happening in educational systems. Although distance learning has roots dating back to the fifties, it has become an urgent requirement for the present and the future, so much so that it has become called the twenty-first century education system. Rapid technological change has made the importance of education, re-education and its continuation essential, and this required attention to continuing education in preparing teachers and in training them during service. Distance learning can also contribute to the development of formal education within the university, and help graduates who have not completed their university studies to obtain their university qualifications through it.
